Photo above shows Haighmoor Gwenllian (Fronarth Victor x Powysvalley Maria) a 2002 mare who was Supreme Welsh Cob under saddle.
A mad rush of a morning with no time to sit and watch any of the classes and no individual fly by gallop for many, even though it wasn't actually as wet as 2007. Sadly not all the mare class had the opportunity to shine with a number being asked to leave the ring after a fairly brief turn - the class being split into two for the provisional show. I suppose it is a fine balance between getting through the classes and freeing up the ring for other forms of entertainment, and I know thats showing, but it seemed to be more a case of the destination than the journey on the Thursday.
Beth Simons rode the winning mare, Haighmoor Gwenllian, and went on to take the supreme under saddle from the winning gelding - De Shurland Croeso. I thought it was going to be a double show whammy for Pennal Lively Maid at one stage, as she is the dam of both Pennal The Great and Pennal Brynmor, but in the end Mrs Thompson's Pennal The Great ended up second in the Stallion Class to Menai Martino bred and owned by Peter & Ann Jones.
